Indeed, your bad oral hygiene can come in the way of your social life. If you are a victim of halitosis or bad breath, you will understand what I mean. No one wants to be with a person who suffers from halitosis (bad breath). Definitely, bad breath makes you unpopular. Can you imagine loving someone with bad breath?
Unfortunately, nobody will tell you that the odor of your breath is bad; instead they will simply avoid speaking with you, leaving you without a clue.
Clinically, halitosis occurs when bacteria accumulate in your oral cavity. Despite the common belief that bad odor arises from the throat, it is proved that bad breath originates from the back of the mouth. That is why; a simple test for halitosis is to smell your breath while breathing in your hands.
The most common causes of halitosis are:
1. Xerostomia or chronic dry mouth
Whenever you mouth is dry, you will definitely have bad breath. Actually, xerostomia happens due to myriad reasons, it is also suggested to be the main hidden cause of the morning breath, because salivary flow decreases while sleeping; saliva is the natural cleaner for oral bacteria.
Always drink more water to avoid dehydration. In fact make drinking a glass of water your favorite habit. Believe this; chewing gums can be your lethal weapon against bad breath, as chewing gum will make you salivate, the more your salivary flow, the less will be the bacterial growth in your mouth.
You can always choose cinnamon flavored gums; new researches reveal that cinnamon as an ingredient has a bactericidal effect (kill bacteria).
2. Dental caries, gingival and periodontal diseases

If you suffer from gingivitis, deep pockets, or bleeding gums, expect to have a gigantic number of bacteria living in your mouth. According to Journal of Clinical microbiology, there are more than 140 predominant species of bacterial flora in normal oral cavity, imagine how many species can be detected in a diseased oral cavity.
Therefore, it is very important to keep your oral cavity healthy. Regular tooth brushing, dental flossing, as well as washing your tongue, gingiva, palate and buccal mucosa are really simple oral hygiene measures which can protect you from most types of oral cavity diseases.
Also, rinsing your mouth with a good mouth wash will help you to get rid of all food remnants. Regular dental checkups can diagnose and treat any dental problems at a very early stage.
3. Other medical problems
Experts agree that the oral cavity reflects the body’s general health. Having medical conditions, such as renal, cardiac, hepatic, alimentary diseases can significantly cause persistent bad breath, therefore, regular full checkups, at least every six months, are a mandatory.
4. Smoking
Heat and residual materials resulting from smoking will cause all types of oral ulcers, oral cancers, gingival diseases, staining of teeth, and bad breath as well.
Just don’t smoke…….
5. Eating pungent foods

Specific types of foods, like garlic and onions, can change the odor of your breath. Pay a great attention to what you eat. However, don’t skip breakfast; you can always eat a slice of bread.

Dental problems are real issue for some people. The biggest problem is when somebody do not noticed how bad they smell. Once i drove in taxi with a girl from my company. She was stinking so badly that I almost vomited.
